It’s sushi season! Just kidding I don’t think there is actually a season, but when I get a craving for sushi there is nothing I want more until I get it. So this week I conquered homemade baked sushi rolls made in my ice cube tray.

I’m on winter break from school, and one of the things on my to do list was to make sushi. The goal was to deep fry it, but I decided to bake the homemade sushi rolls mid prep because I knew it was going to get messy.

This was my first time making these and let me just tell you they tasted AMAZING. The presentation was somewhat sloppy, but hey you get the point right? I’m no professional food blogger, but I am a great cook. So if you love sushi, take my recipe and run with it. Because it will be worth it.

1 cup of rice.

Prep the ice cube tray with ingredients:

  • I added the imitation crab meat first. Next make I would add the rice first, but you can do as you’d like.
  • Then I added the jalapeno, avocado and shrimp salad. I packed it in tightly for no wiggle room.

Add the rice:

  • Layer the top of the ice cube tray with your rice. Pack it in tightly again for no wiggle room.

Note: this worked great for me, but next time I will try adding the rice first instead of the crab meat.

Season the rice:

  • Add sesame seeds and pepper to the top (bottom) of your homemade baked sushi rolls for taste.

Bake instuctions:

  • Flip the ice cube tray over to get the premade sushi rolls out sitting right side up.
  • This took a little bit of effort on my part, so for future reference…a spoon worked great at helping me get all of the “rolls” out.
  • Put them in the oven for 15 minutes.

And Enjoy Your Homemade Baked Sushi Rolls

Now for the topper I of course used sriracha sauce on mine. But feel free to use what you like.

Soy sauce, spicy mayo or plain! I’m sure no matter what you top your sushi in will taste amazing.
