Who said working out had to be done in a gym? You can get just as good of a workout by starting your holiday decorating early this year!

And yes, I know we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, but what else is there to do in quarantine? For some people, setting up for Christmas or winter holidays brings them lots of joy and a sense of coziness. So get to decorating!

I’ll be the first to admit, I am not the type of person to decorate before Thanksgiving, but having the opportunity to spend more time at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I might as well make my living room festive. So I set up for Christmas mid November. And when I was finished, I felt like I had just as good of a workout as going to the gym for 40 minutes.

If you read my blog, you’ll find I turning simple activities into workouts. Check out a previous post called How Many Calories Can You Burn From Cleaning.

My Holiday Decorating WOrkout

I have a pretty small living room, so I was not trying to go all out. My living room is happy with a nice tree in the corner, with some holiday decorations spread out.

But for a 1.5 hour holiday set up I burned 260 calories, and added 1,465 to my daily step count.

The running up and down the stairs, constant up and down fixing the branches of the tree, and the strenuous cleaning and set up helped me get a great workout in! I felt the most work done on my legs and low back with all of the lifting and up and down trying to fix bulbs, lights and branches.

Take a look at my 1.5 hour holiday decorating workout below!

Holiday Decorating Workout

In 1.5 hours I moved furniture, cleaned floors and shelves, brought up all Christmas tree decorations from the basement, set the entire tree up, put final touches on the tree/skirt/base, set up my living room with moved furniture, and cleaned up the excess mess made from the tree needles.

Calories burned: 260

Step count: 1,465
